Some People say the dumbest things!

What joys they are

I am the proud mother of the world's most beautiful baby girl....How my life has changed *sigh*.  She is gorgeous, chubby and has the most adorable smile.  She giggles when I walk into the room, crawls after me when I leave.  She dances to every song she hears and claps her hands when she is delighted.

My world lights up when she smiles and I cannot believe how she makes me feel.

In my eyes, she is perfect...she is healthy, addictive and perfect in all her ways (lol...allow me to dream).

Well, its funny that when she was only 3months old a friend said to me "Oh your little one is so gorgeous, how adorable.  What big beautiful eyes she has.  She  is so big, how cute...just make sure you help her to watch her weight".....*emergency stop*.

I thought ....what??

So I acted like I didn't hear asking her to repeat what she had said.  She then replied with..."she's big so you are going to have to help her to watch her weight".

I knew from then that I had heard it all now.  When is a newborn baby fat or too big?  Can I really predict the weight of my child when they are still just a newborn?
Talk about stamping on a child's self image even before they can say dada.

My cutie was born big is an average size for a healthy baby....

I just found it unbelievable that I have been encouraged to put my baby on a diet.

Should I?

  1. Some people simply do not weigh their words at all.

I remember when my 16 year old was still a toddler, she lost some of her hair, you need to see her thick hair now. A lady saw my beautiful baby and all she could say was, what did you do to her hair? Now see I am very jovial and polite but on this day ...... I looked at her and said 'her hair? I cooked it and ate it. (sign of the cross lol)

Seriously tho, we need to be careful what we say and how we say it. There have been instances that some people have said things and all that comes to mind is - insensitive.

Diet? Please ignore her, my babies were all chubby and lovely , someone saw one of my babies and implied that she was being overfed. Aba.

Babies tend to loose their baby fat, as they grow they become more active anyways except in unique cases. Just make sure she has a balanced diet. fruits and veg etc but please don't take her to weight watchers ooo xx

  2. @ Shola...: thank you for your advice and wise words. It is truly amazing some of the things that people say.

Can a baby be overfed? Well if they can, not so far with mine. She only eats when she wants to eat and will not even mind you if she is not interested.

    - "I cooked it and ate it"...You are too funny! Thanks for this, you have made my day.

  3. Lord have mercy, what is the world now coming to, when a perfectly healthy 10 month old now needs to watch her weight. Has the media messed people up that much!

  4. I'm sure the person who said this is not a mother herself. Since i had my boy, i've realised how clueless I was about these little people we call babies.
That said, it is quite a bizarre comment to make though. Next thing you'll see is a baby with flat abs or six pack - if i saw such, i'd call social services !
